Oh how I love Mason Jars…let me count the ways:
- They make great drinking glasses – I love filling them up with ice tea or a big glass of water. (See Pioneer Woman’s recipe for iced coffee – yum!)
- They are super durable – Between gooping up the sides of glasses with my lip gloss and hurriedly putting them in the dishwasher (I’m a klutz in the kitchen), my original 6-pack is still in tack.
- They make great everything holders – I personally use one for a coin jar. I cut a slit in the top and drop in my spare change.
This is just the icing on Mason Jar uses, but a new use I came across the other day was a, “Doh! Why didn’t I think of that?!” idea: A Mason Jar Cocktail Shaker. Now, I’m not much of a cocktail drinker, so maybe that’s why I didn’t think of it, but a Brooklyn-based team designed a Mason Jar Cocktail Shaker that’s quite brilliant. Let’s look at their design, shall we:
The top looks super-simple, however the duo spent 6-months ironing out the design and patenting the idea. I love how the Mason Jar ring holds down the colander part. Since Mason Jars already have measurement markings embossed in the glass, this is truly a terrific idea.
Below is their Kickstarter campaign video (already 951% funded!) The vintage look and feel of the packaging adds to the concept and I can see this being sold in retail culinary stores.
