a Wallaby’s Kiss and an Injured Wrist

Forgive me for the typo’s, but you’ll see why in a moment!

Thursday started off as a great day. At school, the kids attended an animal show where they got to hold and pet many different types of reptiles, amphibians and animals. I was even asked to feed a wallaby a flower from my mouth to its mouth. It was the sweetest thing; wallabies are very gentle. It was really exciting seeing the kids reactions while handling snakes, lizards, and frogs.

Then, that evening I rode my bike to class to present a collage. I made it there with my poster board in tact and left with it as well. That’s when I ran into trouble. The dang poster board got caught between my pedal and my handle bar and down I went. My first bicycle accident in the 4 years I’ve been riding! Just so happens I fell on my right side and majorly injured my wrist. Of course I’m right handed and am now struggling with writing, typing, brushing my hair, brushing my teeth. I realized I’m very dependent on my right hand. I guess this gives my left hand some time to catch up on functionality.

I’ll be back to posting in the next day or two as my wrist begins to heal.

@Lindy Mint – I’ve already been eating chocolate covered fruit. Maybe I need to bump it up to ice cream. I’ll try it! ;)

@Money Cone- I hope so too! It already seems better today, so maybe by mid-week I’ll be closer to my old self. :)

Sorry to hear that! Bicycles are dangerous! I broke my collarbone 10 years ago and a few mishaps too.

Ouch! I hope you get better soon. Good comment on left hand some time to catch up on functionality:) We’re often so dependent on our dominant hand that we have to revisit the other one in situations like this.

@Krantcents – I can’t really blame my bicycle. I was trying to balance a poster board and ride at the same time and as I rider, I know I need both hands to ride well. I was really pushing my own envelope. Reminds me of the time I first learned to ride at 8, I was excited to show my mom I could ride with one hand. As I was passing by her I yelled, “Look, Mom! One hand!” Next thing I know I did a face plant into our neighbor’s fence. Ouch! Two hands works best. ;)

@Squirrelers – Thanks. Luckily, it’s just a sprain and is healing well. Thank goodness I drank a lot of milk as a kid – instead of any broken bones, my wrist is just temporarily black and blue. ;)

Oh what a nightmare, I am so sorry. I hate falling, it feels like it takes 10 minutes to actually hit the ground. Then you have to figure out what is injured. Did the poster board survive at least??

I hope for quick healing. Typing one handed is tough, as is tying shoes, and everything else! I am glad you had a nice moment with a wallaby though. I think I want one… :)

Here’s some well-wishes for your wrist. Nothing like a temporary disability to make us grateful for being otherwise whole.

@101 Centavos – At least it was only my hand!

@Everyday Tips – Oh, and the Wallaby, I want one now too. It was adorable and really gentle and sweet.

@Money Reasons – My bike is fine and my wrist is healing. Soon I’ll be back on it!

yikes! take care of you & hope you’re soon on the mend! meantime, just think of using your non-dominant hand as a means to stimulate new regions of your brain. ;)
