Credit Resources
I’ve posted a few times about how I’ve improved my credit score from a measly 581 to a whopping 758 within a year (through Transunion). It took a lot of hard work, effort, and time. Through this process, I also realized I need to check my credit score annually and make sure it stays above the 720 mark, or in the very good range, in order to eventually obtain the lowest interest loan on a future mortgage (a goal of mine!) If you haven’t checked your score or report in a while, now might be a good time to do so. Checking your score and report is not as scary as you think. Below I’ve offered a few sites that are easy to use.
Go to www.GoFreeCredit.com:
For more information on Go Free Credit, read the FAQ’s below:
What credit scores do consumers get when they sign up for GoFreeCredit.com (GFC)?
They receive instant access to their scores from TransUnion, Equifax, and Experian. These are not the same as a FICO score.
Will signing-up for GFC hurt my credit score?
No, this is a soft pull, not a hard pull, and will not hurt your score.
Check Your Score Whenever You’d Like
Another place I go to check my credit score for free is CreditKarma.com. It only checks the Transunion credit score, but it’s a good place to start if you like to monitor your score frequently for free. CreditKarma.com also claims that when they check your score, it shows up as a soft pull and will not affect your score.
Obtain Your FICO
If you want to check your FICO score and need details on how to improve your score, MyFico.com is an excellent site. They offer a 10-day free trial for their Score-Watch program. One of the benefits of this site is in-depth analysis of how to improve your score.
If you need additional information on how your score is calculated, please feel free to read my eBook. It’s Free!

Hi, I think also paying off your balances before the statement cycle hits is super important as that’s when they report to the Credit Agencies. I know of some who use the AMEX card and if they would have paid off by the closing date they would have a score that doesn’t get lowered by reporting the highest balance.
