I’m hooked on small houses and can’t pass up Pinterest posts that share adorable, small homes, which is how I came across Hobbitat Spaces. A small house company based out of Maryland, they’ve built 13 cabins around Deep Creek Lake which are all available for rent through BlueMoonRising.org. The farthest thing from cookie-cutter, each cabin has its own individual charm and features. Cabins average $300 per night, but they sleep quite a few people depending on which cabin you rent. Many have sleeping lofts, bunkbeds, Murphy beds, and sleeper sofas which accommodate all kinds of sleeping arrangements. If you like what you see below, you’ll be happy to know that Hobbitat will soon be selling their house plans. But if you don’t want to build one yourself, check out these cabins and the details below.

If you want Hobbitat to build a cabin for you, they advise visiting one of their existing cabins (according to their website, they can provide a stay in a Deep Creek Cabin- I’m not sure if this is free of charge, or at a reduced price). Building one of these takes 6-7 weeks at their shop, building codes are based on Maryland building codes (which they claim are some of the most stringent in the nation – but can they withstand an earthquake?), and all utilities are “contained within the envelope” (I have no idea what this means). They estimate prices between $45,000 and $100,000. Not too bad considering this includes plumbing and electrical – maybe that’s what “contained within the envelope” means.
Too bad I don’t live anywhere near Maryland. I’d love to check out one of these cabins.
Would you consider one of these cabins as a primary residence or summer cabin?

Very cute. I love these. While I don’t think I could live in one full-time, having one as a small cabin would be pretty amazing.
@Michelle – I’d love one of these as a summer cabin. I think they’d be perfect!
I could see this being a great option for a summer cabin, but not as my primary house. I need something bigger for every day living.
Very cute. And I was just telling my husband that eco-houses (pre-fab ones) are probably not a bad idea. This one is rather small for me though…
