A few months ago, food trucks started lining the streets of an old-fashioned main street area of Granada Hills in the northwest section of the San Fernando Valley. Now, every Wednesday and Friday evening, a plethora of food trucks appear on the streets from around 5 pm until late evening.
But these food trucks aren’t the roach-coaches that we think of when we think “street vendor.” (Well, okay a couple of them are and serve authentic street tacos – yummy!) Most of them are gourmet food trucks catering to a particular genre of food. Take for instance The Streets of Thailand delivering Thai food, or Roll it Up serving sushi rolls, or Slap Yo Mama serving barbeque. Are you hungry now?
Last Wednesday was the first time I decided to head on over to the food truck extravaganza. I was craving street tacos. Many of the food trucks are truly gourmet; they’re covered in huge ads describing what they are known for, ie. burgers, Korean b-b-q, or cheese sandwiches. Instead of picking one of the fancier trucks, I chose the more roach-coach looking truck for my street taco craving. I wasn’t disappointed. Their steak tacos were pretty good, on a scale of 1-10 I’d give them an 8.
I’ve found a great alternative to my regular fast-food or quasi-fast food last minute meals, at least on Wednesdays and Fridays!

- Life and My Finances with We Bought Our First House! Congrats to Derek. I’m sort of jealous, but not jealous of all the scrapping he’s done to remove the old wallpaper. 😉

Sometimes its the least glamorous venues that can offer the best food. This applies whether its food trucks or restaurants. There was a total hole in the wall place in the middle of Chicago that looked like someplace nobody would ever want to stop at. In reality, it has fantastic Mexican food. Another place I like looks non-descript outside and very modest inside, but has amazing Ethiopian food. Some of these “shabby” looking places can be real gems! Maybe they’re focusing more on food that the nonessentials:)

I have to agree with Squirrelers! My best food discoveries were all impulsive ones! Nothing fancy, but the food was just heavenly!
