Being that my main topics revolve around saving money and most of my readers are focused on this as well, I thought it’d be fun to share an infographic from Mint.com that I found in Daily Infographic (I love this site!). According to Mint.com, 50% of Americans claim that they would have difficulty coming up with $2,000 for unexpected expenses. Around here, that’s what an emergency fund is for. However, I guess this is still a novel idea to many Americans based on data Mint.com collected. Check out the infographic yourself (click on the link to see a larger version on Daily Infographic):

How’s your rainy day fund looking?

Wow very interesting graphic. We have around 6 months worth.
@Michelle – 6 months worth is great! I think it’s really scary to think 50% of the population would have trouble getting $2,000 in a pinch. It’s worth it to save for a rainy day!
My rainy day fund is looking depleted – 2012 has been rough on the finances so far!
@Kris – Thankfully it’s only just the beginning of the year. You’ve got some time to beef it up. I know mine is looking a little slim – I need to work harder. 😉
Nice info graphic. Our EF is pretty good right now.
@Retire by 40- Good to hear yours is strong. Mine’s a little low at the moment. But I’m working on it. 😉
Interesting info. I’d hate to dip into my emergency fund, but I could definitely do so if push came to shove. I try to tackle every other option before ever dipping into my EF!
@Christa – That’s great that you avoid dipping into your ER fund. I think I raid mine too often. 😉
@Dollar Disciple – Having 6 months of living expenses saved up is really impressive. I think that’s a great start for everyone.
I think for the additional time will come, There’s something more innovation and improvement will catch on it. Thanks for sharing this growth graphic..
Very useful graphic. This is actually something we are working on right now. We are trying to save up more in our ER fund. I like these metrics. I will share them with my hubby. They make a lot of sense.
@Miss T -Daily Infographics is my new favorite site. I think graphics can sometimes tell a story better than words and this one definitely does that!
Sounds pretty good..I like the idea of doing this kind of graphic..Thank you for sharing this to us..
@Paula – I actually didn’t create this one, I borrowed it from Daily Infographics. I made my own on another site, but it’s a lot more difficult that I thought it was. However, after I got a quote from a company that builds infographics, I think I’ll just perfect making my own or borrowing them for now! 😉
@Niki- Now that you’re debt free, I bet it’s a lot easier to focus on beefing up that ER fund! I’m sure you’ll meet your 8-month goal by the end of the year. 🙂
