Make it count. Or so says the Lexus LS commercial that oozes with a “keeping up with the Joneses” mentality. I’m going to go out on a limb and assume Lexus believes the economy is improving, enough so to engage the prime time television crowd with commercials targeting the affluent or soon-to-be affluent (or hope-to-be affluent someday).
I’ve always had a problem with car commercials. I understand advertising and know why they flash images of wealth, beauty, and carefree joy – most people yearn for this lifestyle but can’t achieve it. Car companies sell this idea through commercials – a glimpse of this lifestyle if you buy the car. Or, buy the car, have the life.
The reality is closer to: buy the car, have more debt.
This is my parody on the “Someday Your Life Will Flash Before Your Eyes” commercial:

Make it count!
Who says the mundane can’t be cool?
What will your life look like?

Hey, is this a video of my life???? I’m trying to have more fun!!! Don’t need or want a lexus, I want my 14 year old car to keep going forever.
@Barbara – I’d guess this is much more similar to most people’s lives! But it’s still fun. 😉 I don’t want ta Lexus either, especially with the pompous commercials they tout as the way to live. I just want to puke.
Your reality is in sync with mine. I don’t appreciate any commercials that entice people to go into debt to obtain the life style they think we should all have. Sure, more money would be great and make some things easier, but it has nothing to do with not appreciating what I have now.
@Leslie – Great point. Appreciate what you have now and feel richer for it.
Great post. We are trying to have more fun too and change our attitude. We both have been feeling pretty mundane lately. Thanks for the reminders.
@Miss T – I think the mundane can be fun, too. I just think the Lexus commercial is so pompous I had to post a parody. 😉
Painting and mowing… shades of chores past. Painting is mostly done (some rooms twice over), and we now have teenage sons to take over the mowing. But there’s always more projects.
@Andrew – Teenage boys come in handy when it comes to chores – takes the pressure off of you (well, as long as they do a good job.)
