I was pleasantly surprised the other day when I checked out at Sprouts and my receipt was only 2-1/2 inches long. For those that aren’t familiar with Sprouts, they’re a health-conscious grocery store that has a wicked selection of produce, much of which is organic.

Unlike many chain grocery stores where the receipt is a mile long and includes print out after print out of useless coupons (for things I don’t buy), Sprouts’ register receipt uses double-sided printing to keep the receipt short and sweet. Yes, a double-sided printed receipt. How clever is that?! And why don’t all stores switch to this? (My guess is that the registers cost more up front).

Since Sprouts doesn’t use a member rewards system, all sales items apply to everyone which limits the printed information on their receipts. Smart. Less printing, less paper, less waste.

Do any of your local stores use double-sided printed receipts?

I have never heard of this but it sounds awesome. I hope it takes off and becomes more main stream.
