Bike, scooter, bus, skateboard. Or anything other than a vehicle…think: alternative modes of transport.
With gas prices teetering on $5.00 a gallon here in California, I’m so glad I’ve gotten into the habit of bicycling. Of course, our temperate weather helps as it encourages me to bike all year long. I ride to school most days – 4 miles each way -, to Starbucks (but only on the weekends, now. 😉 ), and to drop off a Red Box movie or run a quick errand within a mile or two. —Oh, yes. That means I did buy a new bicycle after all. And it’s great – light weight with larger tires gets me from point A to point B faster than my old bike.
Best of all, I’m saving money by NOT spending it on gasoline. I filled up this past weekend and, not having kept an eye on the rising gas prices, almost had a heart attack! Oh, how I long for the days of $3.60/gallon gasoline!
What am I saying?! I remember when gas cost 99-cents per gallon. That was the year I got my driver’s license (yes, I’m that old.)
On the flip side, the rising gas prices four years ago prompted me to ride a bike for trips under 5-miles. It’s become a habit that’s good for my pocketbook, my heart, and my muscles (and I don’t have to spend time working out – yippee!)
Gas prices can spike, soar, and zoom all they want. I’ll just keep pedaling, saving money, and staying fit and trim.
Have you been affected by gas prices in your area? How are you retaliating and saving money?

I try to not use my car at least once a week. I only drive 7 miles to work and my wife drives less than a mile. It almost sounds as though i could avoid driving, but public transportation does not work and walking in 100 degree weather does not make sense. My solution is 2 economical cars and using them as little as possible..
