I’m not looking forward to this month’s progress report, hence the tardiness of my post. As a recap, this year’s goals included:

  • Save $6,000 this year
  • Ride 1,000 miles on my bike
  • Increase my readership to 375 readers daily

So how am I doing at day 180?

Let’s just cut to the chase, the only goal I’m currently meeting is my blog goal – increase my readership to 375 readers per day. I’ve spent quite a bit of time working on my SEO and it’s paying off exceeding the goal to 400+ readers per day or at least page views. Now if only this equated to an increase in income….

My bike goal was on target until I started driving 70 miles round trip for a summer position – hopefully the networking will pay off but only time will tell. I’m now squeezing in about 12 miles a week. This should improve by next month and I should be able to get back on track to meet the 1,000 for the year.

As for my savings goal, let me just go sulk in the corner. A slow month on top of wedding expenses is breaking the bank and I’m sliding backwards. I can only hope for (and works towards) a busier month with a positive cash flow. I hate seeing my expenses exceed my income! If I can get back on track by September – which is usually when my bank account starts to pick up speed -I might be able to eek out an annual savings of $4,000.

*Ugh is all I can say. I’m not happy with my progress and really need to make a new plan to increase my savings. Hopefully next month will end on a positive note.

How are your goals going?

  1. I feel your pain. We just got hit with some unexpected bills, and it is painful. Hopefully September will see you boost up your savings!

    • @Melissa – I’m sure I’ll be able to make it up in the fall, but it still stings that every summer I go through this. I need to change up my pattern!

My goals are going alright. Maybe you’ll land $2,000 in blog income to make up the difference!

  3. Well, my goal was really to lose some weight and so far, I’ve been doing great. I’m taking it nice and moderately. I wouldn’t want to spend a lot just because I strained myself too hard. 🙂

    • @Sarah – That’s great that you’re meeting your goal. It’s always a good feeling to accomplish what you set out to do.

I feel your pain too. My parents are now in a bit of a financial bind and we now are going to try to rearrange things to help them out. I don’t mind but it still effects the budget.

    • @Miss T – You’re an awesome daughter to do that! I’m thankful that my parent’s are doing quite well because I’m not so sure I’d be able to help them. I really hope my parents have good health for another 10 to 15 years!

just keep working – even though you wont make them (maybe) you can get a lot closer if you keep trying rather than toss in the towel now.

    • @Jeff- I’m not throwing in the towel by any means, just disappointed in myself for not preparing for the summer cycle that has repeated itself the last couple of years. I’m on a mission to alter that cycle, but my plans haven’t kicked in yet. Hence, I need to plan for a plan B!

70 miles is a long way to drive! My goals are not going all that well either, but I’ll keep working on them. You do the same ok!

    • @Retire by 40- Last summer I did this drive as well but it didn’t grate on my nerves like this year. I think that’s because I was making more money and could justify the drive- this year, not so much. Soon I’ll get back on track and feel a little less disappointed in my choices.

Don’t be too hard on yourself. 70 miles is alot… but that’s what my husband drives every day for his commute. You are coming out ahead of many Angelenos. 😉

    • @Well Heeled Blog – I couldn’t do that drive every day for very long. I’m thankful it’s only for a short period. I can’t stand the traffic!
