Mason Jars are the best invention since sliced bread. I’ve posted about them quite a bit; from using them as drinking glasses, to a martini shaker concept, holiday gifts, or even just a way to store left overs. Mason jars come in a variety of sizes and a few major brands such as Ball or Atlas. They’re usually sold in the baking section of grocery stores for canning purposes or used in some varieties of pasta sauce which can then be reused. Here are a few new ideas, or new to me, on how to use them in your everyday living, via Apartment Therapy:

A simple way to dress up a large window – add some sand and candles for mood lighting. This could also work on a patio or fireplace ledge.

A great way to separate everyone’s toothbrush and toothpaste, especially if you have family members sharing a bathroom. Just be sure to color-code your toothbrushes or mason jars. Or better yet, decorate your mason jars with ceramic paint or adhesive wallpaper strips to make them more unique.
Reuse, reduce, recycle. Find new ways to use what you already have.
How do you use your Mason Jars?

I love these ideas! I love mason jars. My friend is having a wedding next year and really wants to incorporate them.
@Michelle – I’ve seen tons of photos using mason jars for tea lights at weddings. If your friend is having an outdoor wedding, they’d make great accent lighting.
I love mason jars. I use mine to store homemade salad dressings in the fridge and bread crumbs in the freezer. I like these ideas too. Pottery Barn has a chandelier made out of mason jars. It’s interesting and something I’m sure someone (not me…lol) could DIY.
@Julie – Yes, I’ve seen that chandelier. Mr. LH has been thinking of creating his own lighting fixture using them. I’ll keep you posted here if that happens. 😉
Lol, my daughters would LOVE the bathroom mason jar thing. Decorating them how they like, oh man, especially the youngest, glitter everywhere is what she’d do, lol. Great ideas. I think maybe I’ll share this with my wife and we can start saving up Prego jars.
@TB – I’m sure the kids would have a blast making each jar their own. If you do use this idea, I’d love to see photos!
Wait, you can do stuff with mason jars besides drinking beer? Who knew?!
Just kidding (mostly), these are some cool ideas, though I could really do without the glitter TB! (I have three daughters, and they LOVE glitter… consequently, I hate the stuff… it gets EVERYWHERE – worse than sand from the beach).. anyway, some cool ideas here.
My wife and I have used them to light the walkway for parties at night. Just place them a foot or so apart, with a tea light candle and you’re good to go!
@Joe Morgan -I love the idea of lighting a walk path with candles and mason jars. I swear, I love mason jars!
