The following is an article from our guest contributor Natalie Knows It….
Spring is here and it’s time for a lot of outdoor projects. I just finished planting all my annuals around the house and love it!
But, while I was outside planting, I noticed our deck is looking kind of old and the wood in some areas is falling apart. This time our deck is going to be made out of resin composite wood. No mold, no rot, no muss no fuss! We’ve done a lot of

research and a friend did it years ago and loves it. It holds up to the environment and termites! It comes in a few colors to choose from and you can buy it at Home Depot or Lowes. The cost is relatively inexpensive compared to real wood when you consider how long it lasts. Also, you save money on stain, paint, etc. In addition, we’re doing something great for our environment as it’s recycled. My husband will also make a couple of benches for the corners out of this same material. Enjoy!!
Notes from Little House:
Check out the pros and cons of resin and wood decks here. This article has a copious amount of information about composite decks. Another great resource, found here, explains the materials choices out there for composite decks.
What outdoor projects do you have planned this year?

I love a good DIY post, but I’m disappointed there were no details about the actual DIY process!
You can find many specific DIY tips and resources on building decks here
This post is timely because we’re in the process of getting bids for a new deck. I’ll check out the links you suggested. Thanks!
I’m in the process of re-painting our deck, so this type of replacement always pops into my head as I wouldn’t have to paint it anymore, but it’s just simply too cost prohibitive right now.
You can still get lasting results with good prepping and quality paint. Now is your chance to check for loose nails or boards and there is a HUGE difference between cheap paint and the good stuff. Good luck!
Wood decks are so lovely to seem, especially during spring. It would be nice to hand outside and soak in the sun.
Wood deck or not, GET OUTDOORS! I love coming up with excuses to go outside. SoCal weather makes it even more enticing.
LOL, you’re right. Enjoy the outdoors. Life is too short to be spending it all inside the house or office.
