This week’s Tuesday Tip, shopping online saves time, energy, and money! I’ll admit I’m not much of a shopper. Actually, I’d rather do just about anything else than go to a store, wander around for hours, trying to find the perfect clothing item. Yuck!
Tip #11: Shop online.
Shopping online can save you money.
- You can find some of the best deals and compare prices quickly and easily. Whether I ultimately decide to purchase an item online or in the store, I always like to compare prices. I can quickly sort through the best deals online, find the store or retailer that has the item on sale, and hunt for coupons simultaneously. This also saves me time if I do decide to go into the store and purchase the item. I know exactly what I want and can make a bee-line for that item.
- Saving time saves you money. Finding the best price online for an item will usually cover the shipping cost of the product. Unless, of course, it is a heavy item. Then picking it up in a store may be a better money saving option. However, time is money. The less time spent driving to the store, searching the store for the product you want, then driving home costs money too. Even when I know I have to go to the store to try on clothes, searching online makes this task less painful and time consuming.
Shopping online can be green.
- Shopping online can be green if you recycle all the packaging! Having an item delivered to your home from a far away vendor isn’t very green. However, if you shop online, then go to the store to pick it up, it’s no more or less green than not having shopped online in the first place. Unless you take your own reusable bag! Yet, if you do have an item delivered, recycle the packaging, then pay for a carbon offset it might count as being a “greener” option. Of course once you pay the $20 carbon offset amount, the amount you saved by purchasing online is now negated.
Do you shop online for most of your purchases?

Comparing prices is my favorite thing about shopping online — but, I prefer to buy things from physical stores nearby if they carry what I’m looking for. So I use online shopping as a way to gauge whether I’m paying to much or could get a better deal. Sometimes I look stuff up on my phone right while I’m in the store.

@Jackie – Thanks for sharing your shopping habits. It’s great to hear you use the internet via your phone as well!
I do my grocery shopping online — less chance of temptation! Plus, I find I do a lot more deal-hunting that way.

@Rainy Day Saver – I’ve grocery shopped a couple of times online. And I can definitely see the benefits of doing it this way. Does your store charge you a delivery or convenience fee?
