1. Buy some houseplants

What could be greener than adding some plants around your place? What’s more, having some plant life about will literally inject oxygen into the air while removing carbon dioxide.

2. Turn off monitors left on stand-by

Devices left on standby when they’re not in use, such as computers, TVs, and monitors, often consume a shocking amount of energy. Instead of leaving them to idle, make a point of actually turn them off after use. It’ll save you loads of electricity and cash.

3. Add a cozy rug

If you have a hardwood floor, then placing a comfy rug on it will significantly reduce your need to heat the room, saving your energy bills. Try to find a rug with eco-friendly, non-toxic materials in order to make your space extra envinronmentaly friendly.

4. Shut the oven door

Every time you open the door of your oven, you’re releasing hot air and making it work harder to stay hot – so make sure to only leave the door open for as long as is absolutely necessary. If you want to be even more efficient, think about using the microwave for little things like heating up food for lunch and melting butter.

5. Install eco-friendly windows

Getting energy efficient windows, or double glazing, can have a big impact on the amount of hot air exiting your home, insulating you in the cold while allowing airflow in the warm. It can also be a good idea to open your windows to prevent the build-up of humid air and mould.

6. Ditch the dryer

Rather than using a dryer, simply hang your clothes up to dry, whether on a line or on a clothes rack. At the very least, it’ll save you blasting hot air into your house in the summer. There are plenty of indoor clothes racks you can purchase, and you’ll know you’re not risking shrinking your clothes!

7. Buy better bedding

When shopping for bedding, it’s always a good idea to choose wool over polyester as its production has far less impact on the environment. Of course, it’s completely natural as well. For true luxury, though, you might consider an ojai mattress. They contain nontoxic materials.

8. Turn kitchen waste into compost

Saving organic waste from your kitchen is a no-brainer. It will empty your bins while providing a natural benefit for your garden. Make sure to get a garbage can with a secure lid in order to keep in smell contained.

9. Shut the fridge

Letting cool air flood out of your fridge works in the same way as letting the hot air flow out of your oven – so make sure that you don’t accidentally leave the door open overnight. Furthermore, minimizing the amount of time that the door is open will keep your food fresher for longer.

10. Get a low-flow toilet

A shocking amount of all the water you use goes down the toilet. Installing a limited-flow toilet will mean that you’re wasting far less water than you would be otherwise.
