Attempting to keep up with all the tiny and small house news, I seem to have overlooked The small House Catalog website. Six adorable small house illustrations grace their home page followed by real photographs, a sample of what you get when you purchase their very reasonably priced plans, an FAQ page and complementary blog.
Have I mentioned that I absolutely love Craftsman-style homes? Well, their small house plans indulge my obsession with this style of home. Ranging from 162 sq. feet to 856 sq. feet, the bungalows are designed with a loft-style bedroom in the rolling bungalow to up to three bedrooms in the stationary house designs. In addition, Jamie and Shawn are currently building a Beekeeper’s Bungalow after living in their Moschata Rolling Bungalow for a couple of years. Reading posts from their blog on their updates reminds me that building a home of one’s own is possible.
I don’t know if I’ll ever end up building my little house in the valley, but these plans are definitely an inspiration to do so. The related stories, found on the press page, also are an inspiration to living mortgage-free (or close to it!)

Benefits to smaller living:
- Reduced or zero mortgage payments.
- Smaller footprint.
- Less cost = less stress.
- Less clutter!
Could you live in a house/home under 1,000 square feet?
